Dan Almoney is more of a neighbor than a politician. His life has been filled with false starts, job upheavals and uncertainty. Through it all though, his family and faith are the foundations on which he lives his life, as he tries to make a difference in his community.
Born and raised in York County by working class parents, Dan was always involved in some sort of activity growing up. From boy scouts to little league, and later on marching band and theater. He graduated in the top 25 of his class from the Northeastern School District (one of four districts encompassed by the 92nd) in 1996 before going to college at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.
He graduated magna cum laude from Lock Haven in 2000 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Again, being an active participant in many organizations and leading the team behind the college’s television programming his senior year. It’s there that he met his wife Michelle during their first week in band camp as freshman.
After several years working at a local tv station Dan was laid off while his wife was pregnant, but took a leap of faith co-founding a video production company partially based in York County. This gave him the opportunity to spend time with his newborn daughter and be active and engaged in both York city and the surrounding area. He had the pleasure of working on projects with national non-profits, community organizations and other local businesses.
Dan ultimately returned to the workforce several years later due to various family dynamics. One of which was to see his wife pursue her dreams, as she returned to school to become a registered nurse. Since then, Dan has served in a variety of full time and part time roles and continues to be a communications professional to this day.
In 2022, when it became apparent that no one was willing to stand up and challenge our incumbent representative, Dan decided to throw his hat into the race. As he said many times on the campaign trail, “Democracy doesn’t work if you don’t have a choice.” It was Dan’s desire to give his neighbors a choice and voice that led him to seek the nomination for state representative.
Since his campaign came to a close, Dan has continued to be active in his local community. He has spoken out in support of our local schools and has stood up in opposition to plans to sell the Newberry Township sewer system among other issues.
Dan and his family continue to call northern York county home. He knows and has experienced the challenges that some of his neighbors have faced. But it is here that he chose to put down roots, to raise his daughter and to fight for a better future for all of us.
